Make the houses by cutting into a piece of fine polystyrene or foam block.
Mark them out as a square first then a few slanting cuts will create the roof.
Score the roof with fine panel pins to indicate tiles.
Use a square-section tool to press doors and windows in.
Cut out and press down the courtyard.
Paint outer walls white.
Paint tile roof terracotta.
Paint courtyard burnt umber.
Wash the building with varnish including black India ink.
Stick a few pieces of foam bushes to outer walls.
